First day of Pre-school!

Brytlee was so excited to be a big girl like her sisters and get to go to school this year. The first day of school I think she asked me about every thirty seconds if we could take her to school.
Brytlee is usually so hard to get to smile, but on this day she was just full of big cute smiles.
Love this one
She wore her backpack for a hour before it was time to take her to class, and she kept giving Adison kisses and telling her bye.

I can not believe that next year my little Brytlee is going to be going to Kindergarten and in the school system.... time really does go by way to fast. I know that she is going to have a great time in Pre-school, and I hope it teaches her all that she needs to get ready for.

First day of school!

Summer flew this year, and now we are back to school. Alexis is in Fourth grade this year, and Elizabeth is in First. They were so excited to start school this year and they both have great teachers and have cousins in their class and lots of friends to play with!

Elizabeth looking so cute for her first day of school. She was so cute the night before getting ready for bed. She kept asking questions about... "what if my teacher isn't nice, and what if I don't have anyone to play with." I asked her, are you excited or are you nervous for school, and she said, "I am kinda scared, but more excited." After she went for her first day, she had nothing to worry about, and now she is loving it.
Alexis looking so beautiful and grown up for her fist day of fourth grade. Alexis is in the same class with her bff Ashlyn and they get to sit by each other, so we will see if they can handle it and make that last. I hope they both have a great time at school, learn lots and really enjoy school this year!
Alexis in her classroom on the first day.

Brytlee fish

Ryan was able to go on a Exciting trip to Alaska for a week with all the boys in the Merrill family just for the Halibut, and some Salmon also.... While he was away catching fish the size of Brytlee, Elizabeth caught herself a Brytlee fish at home.
The girls had gotten a hold of their little princess fishing pole and had decided to pretend like they were fishing outside with it. Brytlee was trying to cast and couldn't figure it out so she asked Elizabeth to show her how to do it. So Elizabeth grabbed the pole and threw the line out and found out that it was stuck on something. .... so she gave it another big tug and then that is when Brytlee started to scream. It was stuck in Brytlee's cheek. So with me being the only one home I called Ryan's dad as soon as I saw it, and he was at our house in less than ten minutes.

I was so worried it would be a hook that was barbed at the bottom and that it would be stuck on something and make it hard to get out. When ever I catch a fish when I pull the hook out of their mouths they bleed really bad and then die in about five seconds so I was so glad that I was not the one getting this out of Brytlee's check. She didn't even cry and was so brave.
Poor little girl.... It came out great, and didn't even really bleed.
I was also able to go on a fun little trip to Vegas with my sister in law Sara, and Sister Annette, and while I was away Brytlee lost her first tooth. I couldn't believe that my little four year old and already lost a tooth. She is still so young and so little that it was so weird to see her without a tooth. And then a couple weeks latter, her other bottom tooth was ready to come out. She was so excited to pull it out and was so brave for that also.
This is my little toothless Brytlee!

Happy Girl

My baby is growing up way to fast. I love this little baby so much it is crazy how sweet she is, and what a great spirit she brings into our house. I feel so happy around this little girl, and all my girls are so sweet and nice around her. I love the way they talk to her, and how they play with her, it is just so much fun.
Adison is 6 months old now, but in these pictures she was about 5 and a half. She is doing so much so fast, and is learning more every day. She is already sitting up very well, and can roll all over the room. I really have to keep a close eye on her because she is so fast and can pick up anything she wants and everything goes in her mouth.

Brytlee and Adison are going to be great little friends, and it is funny to watch them play together already. Brytlee can get her laughing harder than any of us, and she can always make her smile. Brytlee loves to hold her and pick her up and it makes me so nervous but Adison loves it... (most of the time)

Such a great picture of these two laughing together. Adison is such a squealer, she really loves to squeal in church as loud as she can and makes everyone look at us....
She is almost crawling and it is so funny to watch her try. She gets up on her hands and knee's and then pushes herself backwards.
This girl also loves to eat. She eats just about anything, and even though she has no teeth yet, she will still chew things up with her gums and suck on it until it is soft enough to swallow.

Adison the little princess. I am so thankful for all my girls and love them all so much. They are all just such sweet little princesses.

Parenting

Loved this article. I feel like I am still trying to raise our kids the same way I was raised, and I do NOT want my girls to be wimpy, primpy, spoiled girls. I want them to be tough and dirty like I was. Play outside and use their imaginations. Some times I feel like I am not a good parent because I let my kids walk outside without their shoes on, or have dirt on their faces, but I am still alive.... so I guess they will live also.

Child with cordI often think about how we survived under the watch of our parents. There were no infant seats (how did you get anywhere with me in the car?), no seat belts (ok, there were seat belts, but they weren't safe and no one wore them), people smoked basically everywhere, we gnawed happily on plastic and toys full of lead, climbed on high steel monkey bars, and electrical outlets were always in plain view and ready for a zappin'.

Parenting standards have obviously changed over the years (and most for good reason), but here's why I say our parents rocked.

They Cooked. Meals. In pans. Sometimes even in the oven. Every day. And if we were hungry, we ate. There were very few drive-thrus, no Toaster Strudel, microwaves, no Lunchables, no pizza delivery. We ate meals, you know, with a starch and a vegetable. There was no such thing as a Meal Deal, and items that are passed off as meals today, like the "Pizza and Cookie" combo pack, Hot Pockets, or Jalapeno Poppers didn't exist.

They Sent Us Outside to Play. We played outside, often; most times until after dark. They encouraged it. We were only in the house when it was raining, and sometimes not even then. I remember not even knowing what to do with myself in the house, and would keep checking the window to see if the rain had stopped and I could return outside.

They weren't afraid to discipline us. For the most part. They weren't afraid of looking like a "bad parent" at the mall. They weren't afraid of telling us we were out of line and punishing us accordingly. Speaking of which, I was in the grocery store with my son just yesterday, and saw this couple whose daughter was just about the same age as my son (about 18 months), whining and making noise. She wasn't throwing, kicking, biting, crying, nothing. Just making noise. The dad was embarrassed. He picked the girl up and held her close, as the mother scooted quickly around the store, picking up what they needed. They wanted out of there, lest they be judged. The kid wasn't even misbehaving, at least not according to my standards. As a matter of fact, when they walked by me, I heard the Dad whisper to the little girl, "See, he's being a good boy. Why can't you just be a good girl?"

They weren't parenting philosophy zealots. When I was young, if you went, let's say, to your son's baseball game, you'd find parents, sitting, cheering, supporting their kids. You wouldn't be able to determine which one was the attachment parenting family, or the vegan family, or the vaccination-free family, or the sustainable living family, or the gluten-free family, or the green family. There were just families. And they played. Together. No one was on their soapbox trying to assert their will, or looking down on others for not following suit.

They knew the value of money. Probably not that great, but definitely better than now. I was happy when I had enough money to buy myself a cassette. We had some toys, a few favorites, and we played with them until they basically fell apart. We didn't have Nintendo DS's with fifteen games, an iPod, a cell phone, a laptop, and DVDs to keep us entertained. What do you suppose that would cost in allowance? Six years' worth?

They allowed us to make friends. Things weren't so incestuous when we were young. Our parents let us, for the most part, make our own decisions with regard to our friends. If I didn't like what another kid was about, I wouldn't play with him. My parents didn't go to beenverified.com to conduct a background check on my friends' parents, or friend the kid's parent(s) on Facebook to find out what their deal was. Friendships weren't contrived by way of playdates. We went outside, remember? Just like the other kids. We made friends organically.

They threw us birthday parties. With cake and party hats. I don't remember ever attending a birthday party of the magnitude that I see today. I remember a wayward pizza or rollerskating party, but a party with ponies? Inflatables? Spa days? What?? We were lucky if our party had balloons (which mine rarely had). Our parents weren't concerned about impressing the neighborhood. They were concerned about celebrating our birthday, and for us, that meant family, friends, cake, a few bags of chips, soda, and ice cream. If we were lucky, we got a themed paper tablecloth and that crummy Happy Birthday sign with 50 pieces of old tape on it from everyone else's birthday. And do you remember the pictures? We were smiling. We were happy. We weren't those little ingrates whose ponies, limos, karaoke, and sponsored gift bags weren't enough.

Things have come a long way since my childhood. Things are better, safer, less labor-intensive, and more convenient for sure. But with that comes a lot of, well, crap. Though I'm moving into the future with my babies, and am actually looking forward to navigating these winding and socially complicated roads, I still wouldn't trade, for all the money in the world, the genuine, raw, and meaningful upbringing I experienced. I really didn't want a pony ride, anyway.

Adi Fish

Adison is already almost five months old. I just took her to the doctor yesterday and she had to get her shots. I missed her two month shots on purpose because I can not stand putting my baby through pain on purpose. I really didn't want to take her this time either but I made it through it. She had the saddest cry that almost sounded like a newborn cry. And I had all my girls watching and Alecia's kids watching also. They all thought it was fun to see.

This little chunky monkey of mine is already 17 lbs.
Ohhhhhhh, look at those cheeks!!! She is so cute!
This face cracks me up
She will not smile if she see's the camera, she just stairs at it so funny
I had to trick her to look at a toy so she wouldn't see the camera in this picture
She has not liked the jumper as much as my other girls have but she is getting better in it
This picture is like she is saying, just pick me up now.....
Adison has the loudest little squeal that she does now, and I swear that it is as high as one of those dog whistles. She does it all the time when she is talking, crying, or playing. At church this last Sunday we had a hard time keeping her from "talking" and after the meeting I had so many people come up to me and say they couldn't believe such a noise was coming from a baby so young and small.

Rodeo Weekend

Rodeo weekend is kinda a big deal here and we really enjoy it. The girls look forward to the sidewalk sales, the parades, and most of all the rides at night. We still have not taken them to the actual rodeo yet, but one of these years I would love to have them do the mutt'n buster. (ride the sheep)
This year my girls really wanted to buy the wrist bands so they wouldn't ever run out of tickets for the carnival. So they decided to set up a lemonade stand at the road and they would sell lemonade for a while, and then every once and a while they would go door to door. They only did it about four times, and when we counted up all their money I could not believe how much they had earned. $40.00!!! So they were so excited and we had told them that if they earned half we would pay the rest.
We went to the sidewalk sales and everything was just the same old thing they have had every year. Someone really needs to bring something new next year or I think it is going to eventually just die off. One thing that everyone liked, and EVERYONE had was the feathers in their hair. My girls wanted them but after you see everyone you know with them in..... they just don't seem as cool anymore. So we did the face painting instead.
The girl that did it this year was so good. It was amazing how fast she was and all the pictures of the full faces she had done were just cute as could be.

Alexis was very careful with hers and it lasted perfect all day. It was still on when we were getting ready the next day for church and she wasn't very happy when I told her she needed to wash it off.
Brytlee
Elizabeth is pouting because she messed hers up a little and she didn't get to sit where she wanted. Elizabeth and Brytlee were both watching a movie later in the day and they laid their heads on their hands and they rubbed the paint off a little. Then they started to cry because they wanted to go and get them fixed and by the time it was time to go to the parade they were all washed away by tears.
So if you have a weak stomach do not read this!!!! I was so excited to go on the rides this year with my girls, and growing up I loved the Blackfoot fair. I could go on every ride over and over and never ever felt sick at all.... well this year I told them that I would go on the rides with them because I wasn't pregnant! We went on the ball of fire first and I got a little headache from it but it was no big deal... I didn't really feel like going on the spaceship 2000 so they went on that and I just waited for them. And after that I talked them into going on the zipper with me. (one of my favorite rides ever from my childhood) So we get on and within the first minute or so I felt my stomach come all the way up to my mouth and said to the girls, "oh no girls, I am going to be sick". And it hit me so fast.... I started throwing up and I couldn't help it at all. And every time I did the ride would flip us backward so it would just come back in my face and over the top of my head. I don't think any of it was below my head, and none of it got on my girls. The whole time we were on the ride Alexis was yelling so loud. "STOP the ride, this LADY is throwing up!" Ryan asked her later why she said "this lady" and not my mom, and she said, "I didn't want anyone to know she was my mom." I think she was just being nice because when we were getting off of the ride I told them to tell everyone they did it. (but everyone could tell it was really me)
So as we walk out of the ride I hear EVERYONE around yelling, "EWWW, Sick, LOOK at her!" so I just put my head down and was ready to run before I saw anyone I know. But as I look up I see this cute lady from my ward that just gasps and says, "Oh Jill, It's everywhere." I had to wipe my eyes like crazy and still couldn't see very well, and then told her to head over to the other side and tell Ryan to meet me at the car. (I was really glad she was there to get him for me. I really didn't want to walk through the crowd looking like I did)
The girls and I ran to the car and there was a bathroom right by us so I went and washed my face and as much as I could in the sink. I couldn't believe bad I looked and what was still in my stomach. I knew I was going to go on rides so I didn't eat anything after 3:00.

So for a "note to myself" don't ever, ever, ever go on another ride like these again!!!!

What can you do in one week?

After we went to Yellowstone Ryan rode home with his family and me and the girls stayed for a week with the Merrill family. I have not been able to go to IF as much as I would like when I have girls doing sports, and with a new baby it has made it hard to go anywhere. It was my moms birthday so I was really glad that I was able to stay that week and share her birthday with her. Monday evening Summer watched all the kids so my sister, my mom and I could go shopping and hang out together. We went to Target and then the mall and we looked around and figured out that Yard Sales have really ruined shopping for us.... why buy one item for 30 bucks when you can buy the same thing for 50 cents..... So we didn't really shop to to long. We went back and picked up the kids and took everyone out for my moms birthday dinner. I thought it was going to be nuts having 8 kids with us but they all acted very good and we had a nice time.
For my moms birthday I wanted to do some house work for her. She works very hard all day and I know that if I worked all day the last thing I would want to do when I got home would be cleaning. So I cleaned out the camper from top to bottom one day, then mopped her floors the next, then the next day I cleaned out her pantry. I pulled everything out and put it in the kitchen and I couldn't believe how much stuff you can fit in a pantry. But I put it all back in and got it all organized so I hope it is a little easier to find things. The rest of the cleaning was just trying to keep cleaning up after my own little family. We also were able to watch Mia and Ava this week and my girls had a ball with them. A couple of the day's Tessa came over and I couldn't believe how well her and Brytlee played together. They were so cute! But one of the days when my mom and I got busy talking and doing other things upstairs the little girls all started to play dress up. They would come up and show us how cute they looked and then go down and change again. There was a while that it was really quiet and before you knew it three little green goblins came up the stairs and said "BOO!!!" My mom and I about died. They had gotten into her stamp sets and taken the green ink out and rubbed it all over themselves. It wasn't that hard to get off of them and we were relieved that there was only a little spot on the carpet that ended up coming out.
Ava really wasn't bad, she just had a little on her arms and a little in her hair, but Tessa and Brytlee were covered.
cute little green goblins!
The girls had so much fun playing at my parents house. My parents have made their yard into a great playground and it is so fun for the kids to play on. (I wish I would have taken a picture of it) a while back they bought a marry-go-round and they set it up in the yard and then next to that is a teeter- toter then they put the tramp in the ground next to that and then a great little swing set next to that.
Not only do they have all of that but they have the four wheelers and the Rhino and the camper, and the pirate ship, and so many other fun things for the kids to do. My kids were in heaven. Their yard is great to with all the flowers and all the trees so it made it very easy for Elizabeth to catch this big butterfly.
The girls played with it for a while and then let it go so it could live.
One of the day's Annette, Cindy and I all took the kids to the Zoo. The kids were all so excited and had a blast. I had not been there in forever so I enjoyed going also. The penguins are always one of my favorite animals to watch. There was a cute little penguin that was a little showoff and kept going in circles and was fun to watch.

Elizabeth and Mia had so much fun together. They get along so well and love being together.
Adison was a good little girl while we were there. She was a little tired for a while but wasn't bad at all.
such a cute group of kids.
Check out this goats eye... weird
Elizabeth is hatching from a egg!
Oh and look at the two sleeping baby chicks
Now she wants to eat... cheep cheep cheep
Yea ha! Ride'em chicken girls

This was a really wild ride!
Alexis being eaten by the lions head!

We didn't ever get to see the otters... the kids were all wondering where they all went?
Giant Turttle
Cindy and Tessa with a cute little monkey
these were little spider monkeys that were so cool to watch. They were jumping all over the place and were so playful. One of the monkey's had a baby on its back but it was so tiny you couldn't even see it. You can't tell in the picture but the full size monkeys are not much bigger than my hand.
The girls love it when grandma reads to them. As you can tell all of the kids are very sleepy in this picture and a few times couldn't keep their eye's open.

My girls love being ready to and I just loved this picture. My mom can never get through this book (you are special) without crying a little and I love that about her. She has such a soft heart and is such a sweet, caring, thoughtful person. I am so lucky to have such a wonderful mom!
one of the nights the field was flooded to water the corn and so there was a lot of mud around. Their cousin Mike told them that they should throw mud balls at Tanner and all the other kids but I think Elizabeth just rubbed it all over herself instead.
Chris has a GREAT yard and they water the backyard by flooding it. So they invited us over to go play in the water.
They also have a beautiful pond that had warm water in it so the kids liked playing in that.

Tanner showing me his sweet baseball slide!

Cindy and Lizzy lou
I was able to color my momma's hair and so I said that she had crazy hair so Elizabeth didn't want her to feel bad so she ran inside and put her hair in some crazy piggy tails and came out to let her know she wasn't the only one.
I had such a great time and we did a lot more but I can't remember all of it. Mostly just hanging out with family and the girls getting some great play time in with their cousins. I always have a long list of people that I want to go see but for some reason time slips away so quick and before I know it it is time to go home.
